A technique developed by Eugene Gendlin, Focusing is a subtle but powerful method of being present with our own experience. By learning to tune inward, to practice listening and watching inside, we may not only gain insight but reach deeper levels of our mind-body. We peel away the layers that are clouding the truth of what's really happening inside, and as we develop greater understanding, a shift is often experienced that helps us feel less stuck. With greater awareness we also may experience a greater sense of control over our patterned reactions.
Through the arts
we are often able to gain access to parts of ourselves
that can be difficult to access verbally. Through
creative approaches such as authentic movement, drawing,
working with clay, or writing, one is often able to gain
enhanced insight, tuning into a deeper, more authentic
expression of oneself than what had felt possible before. Expressive
therapy can be a cathartic process, sometimes externalizing
one’s unconscious experience that felt previously
inaccessible. These approaches often allow for an
expanded sense of creativity, and clients need not have
any prior experience or training in the arts. |
